Shawn Skeir
Born in Nova Scotia and currently based in Toronto, Shawn Skeir studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and George Brown
College.
Shawn has been a figure on the Canadian art scene for over two decades. His paintings, murals and drawings can be found in collectors’ homes, in buildings, hotels, magazines, advertising, and in fashion. He’s gained recognition and representation in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles.
Seemingly spontaneous, the fluidity of bold lines also conveys an intense degree of concentration and the artist’s striking command of the optical effects of colour theory, exposing how both positive and negative spaces echo back and forth through the deft use of his palette. He is inspired by the colour palettes and landscapes that he encounters on his travels, especially through Greece and the Swiss Alps where the meditative value of experiencing grand vistas some 4000 metres above sea level, contrasting with those of the Aegean Sea, guide his inspiration.
His landscapes are multi-layered paintings with lines of majestic hues and continuous movement that create a meditative yet energizing experience.
