Representational Works
This Collection includes works that one might refer to as Representational, Impressionistic or Abstracted imagery. Representational art describes artworks that are clearly derived from real object sources, and therefore are by definition representing something with strong visual references to the real world. Impressionist artists do not try to paint a reflection of real life, but an ‘impression’ of what the person, light, atmosphere, object or landscape looks like to them. They try to capture the movement and life of what they see and show it to us as if it were happening before our eyes.
Some of these works are historical or traditional in nature in that they were created by artists having relevance in the history of Canadian Art of the sixties, seventies and eighties. The Landscape paintings depict Canadian scenery including mostly images from Ontario and Quebec.

Contemporary Collection
Contemporary art is the term used for art of the present day. Usually the artists are alive and still making work. Contemporary art is often about ideas and concerns rather than solely the aesthetic (the look of the work). A large part of this contemporary collection is Abstract.
Abstract Art
Abstract art uses a visual language of shape, form, colour and line to create a composition that may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world, its depiction a departure from reality. This departure from accurate representation can be slight, partial, or complete. Non-figurative, non-objective, and non-representational art are closely related terms.
Abstracted Imagery
Abstracted imagery appeals to the art buyer who wants to identify with the subject matter but who also appreciates a contemporary abstracted style leaving something to the imagination.
Unique Works on Paper
There are many mediums popular with artists all over the world who create single images on paper. Some of these mediums might be: watercolour, acrylic or oil paint, pastel, gouache, ink, graphite, charcoal, conté crayons, encaustic, or egg tempera. Monoprints or monotypes, also unique images, usually involve the process of putting the paper through a press.
Watercolour, also Aquarelle, is a painting method in which the paints are made of pigments suspended in a water-based solution. Watercolours refer to both the medium and the resulting artwork and are usually painted on paper.
Photography
Photography is the art, application, and practice of creating durable images by recording light, either electronically by means of an image sensor or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film.
Limited Edition Original Prints
An original print is a work of art created and printed by hand, either by the artist or by a professional assistant (often called an artisan) from a plate, block, stone, or stencil that has been hand created for the sole purpose of producing the desired image. The most commonly known original prints are etchings, lithographs and screen prints that you will mostly find in this collection.
