"Skeena River Morning Mist"
Oil on Board
Image Size: 12" x 16"
Framed Size: 19" x 23.5", Original Artist's Frame
This painting is one of eight 12 x 16 oil on panel paintings that for thirty years graced the corridor leading to the executive boardroom of an international corporation.
The Skeena River is the second-longest river entirely within British Columbia, Canada. Since ancient times, the Skeena has been an important transportation artery, particularly for the Tsimshian and the Gitxsan peoples—whose names mean "inside the Skeena River" and "people of the Skeena River."
I never had the pleasure of meeting Alan Collier but knew many artists who regularly went on painting trips with him and who considered him a master painter. This size panel was typically used by those who painted en plein air and were many times used as studies for much larger paintings.
